Why Marketing mix is important?


Marketing is very close to my heart rather I have earned my bread & butter from sales & marketing, sometimes I feel marketing is flowing in my vessels instead of blood--hahaha.

Before proceeding to know why marketing mix is important we should understand the basics of marketing and what are the types of marketing.

Basics of Marketing

The 4 Ps of marketing is the basic foundation of any marketing strategy which includes product, price, promotion and place.

Product

A product may be physical, digital or any service which a company wants to promote for getting sales.

Unique or special products get more attention from the viewers hence it's a little bit easy to get sales as the consumer is already convinced about the product.

On the contrary, it's very difficult for a marketer to establish a new product or a normal product with many competitors.

Hence it's advisable to choose your products wisely to gain faster.

Price  

In this competitive market price factor is more important. 

Customers do research before purchasing any goods and tend to go with the economical price until and unless they are not brand loyal.

Choose the right price for your products if you are a manufacturer and a marketer, you may choose a high-priced unique product or a competitively low-priced for a competitive fast-running product.

Place 

Medicines placed in a drug store have more chances of getting sales instead of if it's placed in a garment store.

Similarly, if you want to sell a product to students it is better to place nearby a school or college.

Suppose your blog is related to the lifestyle it's better to add banners of the garments, sunglasses... instead of any selling software on your blog.

Place the product where your customer visit.

Promotion  

Promoting a product requires lots of strategic planning.

a) Which platforms on which you can find most of your customers?
b) What is the right time when most of the viewers are on those platforms?
c) What will be the catchy heading to get your probable customer's attention.
d) How your competitors are promoting their products.
e) What is exactly the right time phase or months? Mainly it's applied to seasonal products.

The unplanned promotion will lead to a waste of time and money(in the case of paid advertisements) along with depression for not getting responses and sales.

After deciding all the above factors we should also know where to promote.

Types of marketing

Marketing is the permutation & combination of these essential 4 elements - content, price, distribution channel & marketing strategy or you can say the 4 Ps.

All types of marketing are developed with these basic elements. 

During my career & reading about marketing, I came to know 164 types of marketing, which may be even more.

Here I will discuss 5 major types of marketing

Advertising
Affiliate Marketing
Content Marketing
Email Marketing
Social Media Marketing

To learn more about types of marketing let's be familiar with outbound marketing & inbound marketing.

Outbound Marketing:-
It's the marketing style for the masses who may or may not be the customer, in this style of marketing the products or services are promoted to everyone who even doesn't want that product or service but may think to buy in future, for example, tv advertisement, billboard, bulk emails.

Many people fade up from this type of marketing, remember an advertisement in between a thriller movie near to climax.

Inbound Marketing:-
This type of marketing is for the selected customer who is searching for the products or services, for example, a blog about product reviews.

This type of marketing is trending mainly because the business is diverting online.

It's a normal way to promote a product through any media, it develops brand awareness by making it familiar to people using fancy content, characters, a catchy tagline to co-relate with a product, and attractive audio-visual impact.

It can make an impact on the masses which can be classified and targeted as per the strategy in different groups, for example, a brand for kids, teenagers, females or men, low-budget families & so on.

It's effective for developing & establishing a brand name to make awareness of a brand & generate sales.

The drawback with this type of marketing is the cost of creating advertising content, promotional strategies & distribution channels as well as a not-sure shot for a targeted audience.

It's a classic example of outbound marketing.

AFFILIATE MARKETING

The priority of a company is always to cut the marketing budget, affiliate marketing is an effective way both for the companies or a manufacturing unit & for an individual affiliate or a marketplace.

In this type of marketing companies provide the products & promotional resources like banners & links to the affiliate or an affiliate marketplace. 

The company has to pay only the commission on the sales done by the affiliate.

The other expenses for advertising or promoting a product is been done by the affiliate. 

Affiliates can also make money not only by getting commissions but also by cutting advertising expenses by creating an informative blog or providing product details and reviews to specific customers through different channels such as emails, social media or a blog to generate sales. 

Affiliate marketing is a mixture of outbound & inbound marketing.

CONTENT MARKETING

As the name indicates content marketing is marketing through the content, it is the best example of inbound marketing. 

Content may be in the form of an article, video or audio.

Here I will focus mainly on Blogging and Vlogging. 

Blogging is the best example of content marketing where you have to utilize the space to make an impact on viewers. 

Visitors are driven by search engines searching for certain information by some words or a sentence known as keywords.  

These keywords are crawled by the search engines and shown to the searcher-related blogs with similar words. 

You have to add these keywords to your blog.

4 Content with a question will encourage the viewers for giving a reply and to start a dialogue.
5 Don't spam with lots of emails otherwise the viewers may block you.

It is better to use automation for creating & managing your emails. 

Social media are free to operate for everyone and provide marketers with a platform to promote, communicate & to generates leads and sales.

If I create a blog and don't promote it, will I get viewers?

No, although I may get a few viewers from search engines due to keywords that too only when ranking on top. 

This can only happen when my blog is perfectly optimized to search engines, have backlinks from social media and other blogs and many other unknown factors in the algorithm of search engines.

Similarly, affiliate marketing is possible through content marketing, social media marketing, email marketing and advertising to get the best results.

A mixture of salt, sugar, spices and other variants gives a wonderful taste to the food provided it is in accurate proportion.
