To understand the difference between sales and marketing we should know some of the basics.

What are sales?

When some products or few services are been sold out to the customers and in turn, the payment is collected is called sales. 

Selling is the procedure of taking an order, delivering the goods and collecting the payment. 

To sell something you have to satisfy your client and convert the client to your customer by showing the advantages and benefits of the products.

What is marketing?

Marketing is the process starting from research to implementation for bringing up the business and achieving more sales and motivating the customers to purchase one or other services again and again.

As I said marketing is a process from start to end to achieve sales hence we should know the steps of the marketing process.

1 Research

Research is basically collecting market information from various sources.

If you are just a start-up you have to research the products that you will be launching, research the competitor, research the market potential, research the targeted customers...

If the products are already existing you have to research the competitor's strategies and pinpoint the targeted customers...

2 Analysis

Whatsoever information you have collected is to be analysed. 

Whether the information is correct, is it matches with the information received from other sources...

Where your competitors are lacking, which market segment they have left isolated...

You have to analyse the buying capacity of the targeted customers.

Prices also play a vital role. Analyse the prices of the competitors.

The analysis is to plan the strategies

3 Planning

During planning, you have to make a plan for designing of logo, product packaging, creative advertising strategies, attractive headlines, and attractive slogan. 

Select a unique selling proposition(USP) to add to your promotional strategy.

You have also to set your goals and budget.

Also, decide on which channel you want to reach your targeted audience.
